How do I book?
Booking with us is easy, you can do it all from the comfort of your room. Start your journey here.
Is there a deposit?
You pay £200 to reserve your room at Portland Green Student Village, this is taken during the booking process. Once your tenancy starts this £200 becomes a security deposit, which is returned at the end of your tenancy as long as you hand back your room and flat in the same condition as when you moved in. If you change your mind about moving in, sorry this is non-refundable.
All deposits are protected by the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) and will be returned within 28 days of the tenancy period ending, less any charges levied for damage to the property or rent outstanding. Tenants can check if their deposit is registered with TDS by visiting www.tenancydepositscheme.com . Further information about the Tenancy Deposit scheme can be found here.
When do I need to book?
You can book at anytime, our rooms are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
We do ,however, get a high demand in the summer months leading up to September, so as soon as you know you are coming to Newcastle, we suggest you get the ball rolling.
Can I stay at Portland Green Student Village after my first year?
Of course you can. We can accommodate all University Students so you can stay with us during your entire educational journey. When you apply we find out what year you are in, so take that into consideration when allocating you a room - to make sure you are with like minded flatmates.
Moving in / Contracts.
When can I move in?
If you booked direct with us, your Assured Shorthold Tenancy agreement for 2018/19 starts in 20th September 2018.
First Year Newcastle University students who have booked with us via Newcastle University, your Tenancy agreement starts
22nd September 2018.

How long can I live at Portland Green Student Village ?
We do two contract lengths options - 44 weeks (Sept - July) and 51 weeks (Sept - Sept). We also offer accommodation during the Summer Lets if you need it.
Do I need a guarantor?
Yes, we do need a guarantor, but they do not need to be UK based. If you pay your rent in full at the start of the year, we may be able to offer you a non-guarantor option, please contact us prior to application to discuss.
What type of room will I be allocated?
All our rooms are en-suite. But we do have a few options depending on your budget and requirements. You can see what's on offer here and you will have the opportunity to tell us your preferences when you apply for your accommodation.
How many people are allocated to each flat?
Our flats vary in size,they are either 4, 5, 6 or 7 beds.
Can I choose which flat I would like to be allocated to?
It’s not always possible to grant every wish of each individual student. However, where possible, we will most certainly try our best to meet the needs of our tenants and requirements, you can tell us about these when you make your application.
Can I find out who my flatmates are before I move in?
We can't give you the names of the flatmates you will be sharing with, but your Student Union or University will have no doubt set up a page on Facebook for you to find our building and flats. Have a search.
Can I book with friends?
Of course you can, we can accommodate groups of between 4 to 7, depending on availability. Just let us know all your names by emailing us at email@example.com and we will look out for your online application.
What do I need to bring with me that my accommodation doesn’t include?
We suggest that each tenant brings their own crockery and cutlery as well as other kitchen utensils they may find useful. In terms of the bedroom, a mattress protector could come in useful as well as a duvet and pillows, clothes hangers and extras such as a laundry bin and alarm clock. There are plenty of shops close by to purchase such items should you be travelling a long distance and not want to bring anything with you. SEE OUR GUIDE FOR FURTHER INFO.
Is there any parking?
Sorry, but with our central location we cannot offer resident car parking, there is however some short stay spaces nearby which are perfect for moving in and out as well as taxi drops offs.
When do I pay my rent?
For 2017/18 rent is paid in 3 instalments on the followings dates, to keep things simple, these are inline with your student loan payments

- 11th January 2018
- 19th April 2018
You can also pay in full at the start of your contract, if you prefer.
Dates for 2018/19 will follow shortly.
How can I make my rent payments?
Our preference is that you set up a direct debit, but we can also accommodate standing orders, bank transfer and card payment in person or over the phone.

What if there is a problem in my room?
Maintenance issues are to be reported to reception either by phone or in person. The issue will then be logged and a member of our on-site maintenance team will aim to have it fixed for you within 24 hours. Some small issues can be resolved immediately.
